What Can Dental Veneers Do For Your Smile?

what is a dental veneer? Comstock Park

Many individuals are unhappy with the appearance of their teeth. It could be a chip or crack. Perhaps they have yellowed over the years.

You Don’t Have to Live With Chips and Cracks

You don’t have to live with shortcomings in your smile. In today’s post, we discuss one of these solutions: dental veneers. At Eric Hull Aesthetic & General Dentistry, we provide veneers for myriad tooth dilemmas.

In a perfect world, each of your priceless teeth would stay healthy, strong, and sparkling white from childhood to your golden years. However, our teeth work hard for us and take some bumps along the way.

Most Michigan men and women will need to restore a tooth at some point. And if you only need one tooth restored, you’re fortunate. Some men and women need a restoration every few years.

And there are also individuals whose teeth are healthy, but they were never attractive to begin with.

What are Dental Veneers?

Traditional veneers come in the form of tooth colored “shells” that are fitted to the teeth. Each veneer is customized to one individual tooth and is affixed permanently to the front. Once placed, it covers the entire visible portion of the tooth.

A veneer can be used when the underlying tooth is structurally sound and free of cavities. A beautiful veneer can cover a chip or crack or fix the alignment of a tooth that appears slightly off kilter as compared to surrounding teeth.

Veneers are Custom-Matched to Your Teeth

Veneers are fabricated with dental porcelain or composite resin. Many men and women find veneers appealing because they can create a whiter smile. A veneer can also protect a tooth from damage.

The latest veneers are thinner and stronger than ever. Your dentist only has to remove a minuscule bit of tooth structure to allow for the thickness of the veneer.

An Attractive Smile Increases Your Confidence

Plenty of men and women have chipped or stained teeth. When it comes to a professional setting, appearances and first impressions are important, and that starts with a smile.

Veneers can create a truly dazzling smile. That is why they are becoming very popular amongst young professionals especially those who have teeth that have darkened or have a superficial crack or small chip.

If you want to be more self-confident in professional and social settings, make your smile a priority.

What are the Benefits of Veneers?

Let’s recap the advantages of dental veneers:

  • They do not stain easily
  • They are custom made to fit the tooth
  • A veneer can correct a misshapen tooth
  • They can dramatically enhance your smile
  • They preserve more healthy tooth structure as compared to dental crowns
  • A veneer can safeguard the front of the tooth from a chip or crack

7 Ways To Fix A Chipped Tooth

fix broken tooth Comstock Park

In a perfect world, each of your prized teeth would stay healthy, strong, and brilliantly white throughout your life. The truth is, however, that most Michigan men and women will need to restore a tooth at some point.

A tooth can be compromised by decay, enamel erosion, a chip or crack, gum disease, or injury. Sometimes old restorations break and need to be replaced or root canals performed decades ago develop an abscess.

Here are 7 different options for repairing a damaged tooth:

Dental Bonding
Bonding, officially called direct composite veneers, is used to repair minor cosmetic issues – small chips, cracks, discoloration, and spaces between teeth. A skilled cosmetic dentist applies moldable tooth-colored composite resin and shapes as desired. The resin is then cured with a special light to harden and adhere tightly to the tooth. Composite bonding is ordinarily the most cost-effective option for improving healthy teeth with minor cosmetic issues.

Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are wafer-thin tooth-shaped fronts that are permanently bonded to your natural teeth. They are used when the underlying tooth is structurally sound and free of tooth decay. A beautiful veneer can cover a chip or crack or correct the alignment of a tooth that appears slightly off-kilter as compared to surrounding teeth.

Fillings
Modern white fillings are strong and inconspicuous. A minimally invasive filling at Eric Hull Aesthetic & General Dentistry leaves you with more of nature’s ideal dental material — your own enamel and dentin. We can also replace old amalgam fillings with white fillings. This makes your teeth look a lot better every time you open your mouth. Get rid of all that metal!

Inlays and Onlays
A traditional filling is shaped and molded after it is applied to the tooth. Because inlays and onlays are created in a dental lab, they are ordinarily called indirect fillings. A less invasive inlay or onlay may be used instead of a traditional filling or, in some cases, a crown. Inlays are applied to just the center of the biting surface of a tooth (not to a cusp or point) and are commonly smaller than onlays. An onlay restores one or more cusps of a tooth.

Crowns
A crown replaces the entire visible portion of the tooth, restoring appearance, strength, and function. A crown is frequently necessary for a tooth that has had a root canal, a tooth with severe decay, or as the replacement tooth in a dental bridge. Attaching a crown to the abutment is the final step of a tooth implant procedure. Crowns can be made of all metal (such as gold), porcelain-fused-to-metal, all ceramic, or all resin.

Soft Tissue Grafts
Gum recession puts teeth and underlying bones at risk. Soft tissue grafting can cover the exposed root of a tooth to prevent further damage. Gum surgery is also performed for cosmetic reasons such as reshaping a gumline to eliminate a “gummy” smile.

Dental Implants
What if a tooth has to be extracted because it is beyond saving? For many Eric Hull Aesthetic & General Dentistry patients, a dental implant anchored into the bone is the ideal solution. A tooth implant consists of a strong metal post (artificial root), abutment (connecting piece), and beautiful crown. A dental implant has many advantages over a dental bridge. They are stronger, provide virtually natural function, prevent bone recession, and do not influence the surrounding teeth. For patients with many missing teeth, tailor-made implant-anchored dentures can be created in any configuration needed.

what to do if dental crown comes off Comstock Park

Schedule Your Coronation

dentist crowns Comstock Park

Dental crowns are one of the best ways to restore a tooth that has been damaged or broken. They are one of most common restorations we perform at Stewart & Hull Aesthetic & General Dentistry in Comstock Park.

The word “crown” is sometimes referred to a “cap”. Dental crowns are fixed restorations that are made to cover the tooth. Once they are in place, they protect the tooth and restore its appearance and function.

There is a difference between a crown used for a restoration and a crown used in a dental implant, even though they have the same name. In a restoration, they cover a tooth that has had work done on it, such as removing decay or a root canal. The crown completely covers the dental work and is cemented in place.

A dental implant is actually a titanium post that is inserted into the jaw, where it fuses with the bone. A connecting piece fits into the post and a crown is attached to that.

At Stewart & Hull Aesthetic & General Dentistry in Comstock Park we use restorative crowns to repair teeth that have been damaged, cracked, or broken. Our patients come from Ada, Belmont, Grand Rapids, Sparta, Walker and Rockford, MI for complete family and cosmetic dentistry. Please call our office to schedule an appointment today!

Dental Veneers

If you still have your teeth, but are not happy with them, these might be the best answer. Stunning veneers offer an affordable approach to cosmetic adjustments – uneven color, size, or shape. These are very thin shells bonded to the front of the teeth.

Dental Implant

An implant is a tooth replacement that includes an artificial tooth PLUS an artificial root. With local anesthesia, the artificial root is inserted into the jaw bone where it integrates with the bone. There are three parts to a dental implant: the artificial root, the connecting abutment, and the final crown, partial or denture.

A dental implant is often the best restoration as it offers beauty, strength, natural function, and protection from bone recession that often occurs at the site of a missing tooth.

Dentures/Partials

Most Belmont, Comstock Park, Grand Rapids, Rockford, Sparta and Walker residents have heard of dentures and partials: a plate holding artificial teeth that can be removed for cleaning. Dentures/partials are customized and can contain varying numbers of teeth. Sometimes the entire set of upper and lower teeth have to be pulled and a denture created. Modern dentistry offers a myriad of custom dental implant-denture combinations to restore missing teeth.

There is no need to miss out on an attractive smile. Schedule your consultation with us at Stewart & Hull Aesthetic & General Dentistry today by call us at 616-784-2377 . We would be honored to provide you with advanced dentistry in the Comstock, Michigan area.

What Is Necessary For A Dental Crown?

Categories: Dental Crowns

dental crowns Comstock Park

Dental crowns have been around for millennia and are still used to restore smiles today. Ancient dentists used ivory, bone, and seashells to make crowns for teeth. Evidence of gold crowns dates from 200 A.D. Porcelain crowns appeared in the 1800s. With the advancement of metal casting processes in the 1900s, crown technology took a big leap forward.

A dental crown procedure consists of multiple steps:

Tooth Preparation
Your dentist will anesthetize the tooth to be crowned and then prepare it. All decay is removed and the tooth is shaped.

The Temporary Crown
A temporary crown is made to protect the tooth and make sure it doesn’t move in the mouth while the permanent crown is being created. Patients need to be careful with their temporary crown. It is not as strong as the permanent crown and is attached only with temporary cement. Avoid chewing gum and eating sticky foods.

Choosing a Color
If the new crown will be created with porcelain, you and your dentist will use a shade guide to identify the best shade to blend in with the surrounding teeth.

Your Crown Is Put In Place
Once the new crown is made, your dentist will place it in your mouth and make any needed calibration to achieve a perfect fit.
