Crown or Veneer?

At Stewart & Hull Aesthetic & General Dentistry, we offer multiple cosmetic dental procedures for creating unforgettable smiles. Two of the most popular procedures are dental crowns and porcelain veneers.

Generally, a crown strengthens a compromised tooth while a veneer is used mainly for cosmetic improvements. A dental crown covers the entire visible part of the tooth. A veneer is an ultra-thin layer for the front of a tooth. Veneers are made with several layers of extremely strong ceramic laminate. Crowns are made of all porcelain or gold. Both crowns and veneers are affixed to the tooth with special adhesive. Crowns and veneers are durable and can last many years if properly cared for, though they are not stronger than natural enamel.

Both of these procedures improve the tooth aesthetically, but dental crowns are a better solution for a tooth that has been compromised by decay, damage, or a root canal. Veneers can fix the shape of a tooth, cover stains, or straighten the appearance of teeth that are slightly misaligned.  Your cosmetic dentist must prep the tooth and submit an accurate order to the lab. The success of a crown or veneer procedure depends on the dentist and lab.

The role of the dental lab technician is equally important. Highly-skilled lab technicians fabricate custom dental crowns and veneers to the specifications of the cosmetic dentist. They must have the expertise to meet the precise standards needed for successful restorations.

The team at Stewart & Hull Aesthetic & General Dentistry and the outstanding staff at our dental lab work together to provide the highest quality dental restorations for our valued patients. Whitening vs Bleaching At Stewart and Hull Aesthetic and General Dentistry In Comstock Park

Teeth whitening has gained in popularity recently as one of the most common cosmetic dentist services we provide. Through an in-office or take-home kit, your results will vary, but most patients see significant lightening that lasts up to a year. Our teeth whitening patients affirm that a whiter smile increases self-confidence and can take years of wear and discoloration away to reveal a brighter smile.

Teeth whitening and teeth bleaching, however, mean two different things. Surface cracks and stains occur on tooth enamel, exposing the yellower dentin below the surface. Discoloration can be the result of the natural aging process, illness, genetics, or dark colored food or drink. Foods and beverages that are both dark colored and acidic – like wine, coffee, and tomato sauce – have even greater staining power.

Teeth bleaching is used to describe a tooth whitening product that contains a form of bleach, either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, in varying concentrations. For best results, teeth bleaching should be done in-office. Bleaching can commonly achieve more noticeable results, sometimes up to seven shades lighter. Intrinsic stains on the dentin, as well as surface stains, can be effectively lightened under an experienced dentist’s supervision.
