How Bright Can You Shine?

Bright Smiles In Walker

Do you want brighter, whiter teeth? Most Belmont, Comstock Park, Grand Rapids, Sparta, Walker and Rockford, MI residents notice their teeth dulling as the years go by, but some foods, drinks, and even mouthwashes can stain teeth at any age.

OTC tooth whitening products like kits, strips, or toothpastes may slightly lighten stains, but for a truly stunning smile, see Dr. Stewart and Dr. Hull!

If you have dental veneers, bonding, or bridges, teeth whitening products will not affect the stains and your whitened natural teeth may make your dental work look even duller in comparison. At Stewart and Hull Aesthetic and General Dentistry, we can advise you with options available, including veneers or bonding, if these have discolored with age.

Remember, anything that can stain a white t-shirt can stain teeth.

Fortunately, brushing after meals can keep stains at bay; however, after consuming acidic foods or drinks, just rinse your mouth with water. Brushing right away can erode enamel.

In-office teeth whitening takes about an hour and bleaches teeth to a whiter-than-ever brilliance. Professional take-home whitening kits are also available at Stewart and Hull Aesthetic and General Dentistry and can produce outstanding results over a short period of time.

Teeth Whitening and Veneers

Categories: Cosmetic Dentistry

Comstock Park Teeth Whitening and Veneers

Teeth whitening is a popular cosmetic dentistry procedure in Comstock Park and throughout Michigan. Numerous ads for whitening products in our local media contain terms such as ‘White Brite’, ’22 carbamide peroxide’ and ‘peroxide teeth’. They look tempting, but how do you separate tooth bleaching fact from fiction?

We recommend that our local Belmont, Comstock Park, Grand Rapids, Sparta, Walker and Rockford, MI area patients talk to Dr. Stewart and Dr. Hull DDS at Stewart and Hull Aesthetic and General Dentistry about teeth whitening.  Just because teeth whitening products are readily available it doesn’t mean they are all safe or appropriate for every person. Getting a professional opinion from Dr Stewart and Dr. Hull is recommended.

Don’t be fooled by smile whitening hype and risk damage, especially if you have tetracycline stained teeth or existing cosmetic dental work such as crowns, bonding, partial dentures or bridge work. It is  important to get a professional opinion from Dr. Stewart and Dr. Hull about worry free teeth whitening.

Teeth whitening kits are not the only way to quickly improve your smile. Many of our patients have benefited from porcelain veneers. Veneers are sometimes called ‘instant orthodontics’ because they can correct tooth misalignment and gaps as well as provide instant teeth whitening. Porcelain veneers can also fix chipped teeth and cover stains. Call our office today at 616-827-7019 to schedule a consultation.  We look forward to hearing from you.

4 Super Tips For Strong Enamel In Grand Rapids

Categories: Oral Health

Grand Rapids dentistDid you know that enamel is the hardest substance in the body? It’s true! This substance, found on the outer surface of your teeth, truly should last a lifetime. But just because it’s super strong doesn’t mean you don’t have to work to take care of it.

Here are some helpful tips for keeping enamel healthy.

  1. Pick the right foods for enamel health. It’s no secret that soft drinks hurt your teeth, and don’t think that diet sodas are harmless – the artificial sweeteners can also erode enamel over time. There are other culinary culprits that can do a lot of harm. Sticky, chewy candies should be avoided. Chewing ice is a no-no. And don’t use your teeth as tools. Take a minute to grab some scissors before you rip open that package with your teeth.

On the flip side, foods with calcium can neutralize acid in your mouth and protect your teeth. So, enjoy your dairy products like milk, cheese, and yogurt!

  1. Avoid vigorous brushingand use a soft toothbrush. It’s best to brush about an hour after eating, because foods, especially acidic ones, can soften the enamel, thus making it more prone to damage from brushing. If your teeth are discolored or yellowish, you may feel you need to brush harder. Instead, discuss teeth whitening with your dentist.
  2. Keep stomach acids in check. If you have a problem with severe heartburn, stomach acid could be traveling up your esophagus and into your mouth. This acid can erode enamel, so talk to Dr. Stewart and Dr. Hull about treatment.
  3. Talk to your dentist about dry mouth and tooth grinding. Lack of saliva is a major problem for tooth enamel, and it’s no surprise that teeth grinding can cause enamel wear. Please inform Dr. Stewart and Dr. Hull if you experience either of these issues.

At Stewart & Hull Aesthetic & General Dentistry we want our patients to have the best oral health possible, and that starts with enamel health. We love helping our patients get the dazzling smiles they want with various cosmetic dentistry procedures such as teeth whitening, veneers, Invisalign, tooth colored fillings, and dental implants.
