Your Michigan Dentist And Cleaning Your Teeth Michigan is known for its beautiful smiles, and our local Comstock Park community is no exception. Keeping your teeth clean is an important factor in maintaining your beautiful Comstock Park smile. One of the benefits of regularly visiting your local Comstock Park Michigan dentist is a thorough teeth cleaning and a review of your brushing habits.

Our Comstock Park dental hygienist helps you keep your teeth clean by assessing the condition of your teeth, and recommending improvements to your daily teeth cleaning habits. Our Comstock Park oral hygienist can also professionally clean and polish your teeth at your regular Comstock Park dental check up. You should schedule a regular dental check up every six months. At Stewart and Hull Aesthetic and General Dentistry, located in Comstock Park, we specialize in general dentistry.

Cleaning your teeth in Michigan is the simple task of removing plaque (a sticky deposit that gets left on teeth in which bacteria thrives) and tartar (a calcium deposit that forms on teeth and aids in tooth decay). This is done by brushing regularly with a toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste, and flossing. Brushing and flossing at least twice each day can keep plaque and tartar from building up on your teeth and results in cleaner, healthier teeth. A regular visit to your local Comstock Park dental hygienist will help you stay on top of problems that can go unseen.

The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends visiting your local Comstock Park, Michigan dentist at least once every 6 months for a regular dental check up and teeth cleaning. These regular visits to your Michigan dentist potentially prevent the undetected development of problems that can occur from neglecting to clean your teeth.

To keep that beautiful Comstock Park Michigan smile in good shape, come in for a dental check-up and teeth cleaning.

Rockford MI Dental Patients Want A Choice In Dental Fillings

Rockford MI Dental Patients Want A Choice In Dental Fillings

With all the talk in Rockford MI of multi-procedure smile makeovers involving veneers, porcelain crowns, bridges, teeth whitening, dental implants, and invisible braces, sometimes the traditional dental filling is overlooked. If a cavity progresses no further than a filling, Michigan cosmetic dental patients can avoid more extensive and invasive treatments. Today, let’s talk about dental fillings.

Most dental patients in the Rockford MI and Comstock Park area have a few fillings in their mouth. When a tooth has been damaged through decay, a dental filling is the most common way Michigan family dentists restore the tooth to its previous, intact condition.

Dental fillings have been used for over a hundred years, and they’ve come a long way from the silvery amalgam fillings many of us in the Grand Rapids, Comstock Park, and Rockford MI areas remember.

Rockford MI cosmetic dentists and dental labs have been working to formulate filling materials that are more cosmetically pleasing to their Michigan patients.

Today, the filling material of choice in Comstock Park and around the country is a composite of plastic resin with glass or quartz filler. Referred to as composite fillings, Comstock Park dental patients love the fact that they can be matched to their natural tooth color, making them practically invisible. This is particularly important when the filling needs to be in a conspicuous part of the mouth, such as the front teeth.

Despite the popularity of tooth-colored fillings, many Rockford MI dentists still find amalgam fillings appropriate in some cases. Dental amalgam is made from a metal alloy, which gives it the ability to hold strong even when the chewing load is great.

We’re Dr. Stewart and Dr. Hull, Comstock Park cosmetic dentists and we work hard to make sure our clients enjoy their dental visits and love their smile. We’ve practiced dentistry since 1974, and we find it especially rewarding when Grand Rapids, Comstock Park, and Rockford MI residents find renewed confidence after a smile makeover. So whether you are interested in replacing metal fillings with composites, or if you want to discuss tooth whitening and veneers, our staff would be happy to answer any questions you have.

Professional Teeth Whitening

Categories: Teeth Whitening

Professional Teeth Whitening at Stewart & Hull A brilliant smile leaves a lasting impression. Professional whitening of teeth can dramatically improve your overall appearance and give you a boost in self-confidence.

Our teeth often turn yellow or gray as we age. The things we eat and drink continually such as colored sodas, coffee and red wine contribute to the staining. Most of us are aware that smoking is not only bad for your lungs; it is an enemy to beautiful teeth. If you are considering having your teeth whitened, you must first decide which method to use. At Stewart & Hull, we enjoy discussing treatment options with our clients. To schedule a free consultation to talk about teeth whitening or any other dental procedure, call 616-827-7019.

At-home whitening treatments usually consist of trays filled with whitening solution. It takes 7-14 days to achieve 3-6 shades lighter. Brush-on teeth gels and whitening strips take up to 30 days to achieve noticeable results. Not only is whitening toothpaste abrasive, it may be damaging to the enamel surface.  Whitening toothpaste may lighten superficial stains but often provides little or no change in appearance of teeth.

Professional teeth whitening procedures performed by a dental professional achieve dramatic results that last far longer than other treatments.

All of the whitening methods may cause tooth pain or sensitivity, but this usually goes away in a few days. If you have crowns, porcelain veneers or bonding, it is important to talk to your dentist before choosing a whitening method.

We do smile makeovers!

Sealants…A Proven Way to Fight Decay

Categories: Family Dentistry

Comstock Park Family Dentist

Sealants are a thin coat of clear resin that is applied to the biting surfaces of teeth. Teeth with deep pits and grooves can easily trap bacteria that can later lead to decay.  Sealants fill in the pits and grooves to create a smooth surface.  Dr. Stewart and Dr. Hull recommend sealants on permanent, unrestored, back teeth for patients of all ages; from young children to mature adults.  Sealants are usually placed on the molars of our pediatric patients but in some cases anterior (front) teeth can benefit from sealants.

Dental sealants protect teeth that have no decay (primary prevention) and also prevent further decay progression in teeth that show very early signs of disease (secondary prevention).

At Stewart & Hull, we take special care of our Comstock Park, Walker, Grand Rapids and Rockford, MI patients. We want each child’s dental visit to be pleasant and painless so they will never develop a fear of the dentist. We advise parents on the specific dental issues associated with each stage of childhood. Ask us about fluoride, sports mouthguards, and orthodontic treatment. Call our office at 616-827-7019 to schedule a pediatric dental exam.

We provide comprehensive restorative and cosmetic dentistry for Comstock Park people of all ages. You can learn more about our practice at https://www.greatmismiles.com/meet-dr-bruce-stewart.

Dental Implants: Beneficial for Many Ages

Categories: Dental Implants

While dental implants have been around for over forty decades, today’s dental implants are better than ever and are becoming the standard of care for people missing teeth in the Comstock Park, Rockford, Michigan and Greater Grand Rapids area. Implant technology has improved exponentially over the years and continues to improve. Dental implants provide excellent esthetics, superb chewing function and are biocompatible.

While you may not think of teenagers as needing dental implants, it is not an unusual situation. It is not uncommon for children to be born missing a permanent tooth. Once a person’s jaw development is complete, dental implants can be successfully placed to replace the genetically missing tooth. Often this can be done in the late teenage years, or at the latest, the early twenties. After the implant has healed a very natural-looking dental ceramic crown is placed over the implant. It is likely that a properly restored implant would be impossible for someone to detect when looking at a patient from the Comstock Park, Rockford, MI or greater Grand Rapids area who has had a dental implant at the office of Stewart & Hull.

Dental implants are also the treatment of choice when replacing a tooth that had to be extracted or is missing due to an accident. Rather than remove tooth structure from two healthy teeth on either side of a missing tooth to make a dental bridge, an implant can be placed in the open position and the other teeth remain untouched. This is frequently the option chosen by patients in the Comstock Park office of Dr. Bruce Stewart and Dr. Eric Hull.

Dental Implants are also an excellent option for people needing dentures. Implants can be placed in a few strategic locations and the denture is then fixed to the implants. This implant-retained denture has a higher level of stability than an ordinary denture.

So if you are missing teeth, whether you are 18 or 80 (or any age), contact the office of Stewart & Hull to see what our doctors can do to help you. Our dedication to continuing education and technology allows us to always provide our patients in the greater Grand Rapids, Mi area with the best implant systems available.
