Healthy Lifestyles For Healthy Lifesmiles

Comstock Park dentist can help you have a healthy lifestyleDental health and a stunning smile depend on much more than simply brushing regularly. In today’s Stewart & Hull Aesthetic & General Dentistry post, we present a quick refresher course on critical lifestyle practices that affect oral health. You are probably familiar with most of these recommendations, but it is helpful to get a reminder once in a while. We encourage all of our patients to maintain a lifestyle that promotes dental health as well as overall physical health. After all, the two are inseparable.

DO:

Eat a nutritious diet.
Eat calcium-rich dairy products like milk, cheese, and yogurt to neutralize acids that attack enamel.
Brush gently but meticulously at least twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste.
Make sure you clean thoroughly between teeth with dental floss or interdental cleaners such as flossing picks.
Get your teeth professionally cleaned twice a year.
Have a dental examination twice yearly with Dr. Stewart or Dr. Hull in Comstock Park.

DON’T:

Eat sugar frequently. Sugar triggers the production of detrimental cavity-causing acids that weaken enamel.
Snack throughout the day. This speeds up plaque production and subjects the teeth to constant bombardment with acids.
Chew on ice.
Use your teeth as tools. Ever.
Get oral piercings.
Ignore tooth pain or sensitivity.

If you have oral pain or haven’t visited a dentist in a while, call Stewart & Hull Aesthetic & General Dentistry at 616-784-2377 to schedule an appointment. Tooth problems get worse over time – especially if there is decay or gum disease.

At Stewart & Hull Aesthetic & General Dentistry, we serve the Comstock Park area with exceptional dental care including general and cosmetic dentistry. Ask us about implant dentistry, restorative dentistry, porcelain veneers and Zoom! teeth whitening.

Why Sports Drinks Put Teeth At Risk

Comstock Park Dental Financing

Many health-conscious individuals in the Rockford, MI area exercise regularly, and many turn to sports drinks for hydration.

While it’s true that they help maintain electrolyte levels in the body (and pose fewer health risks than energy drinks), their acidity can erode tooth enamel. And when tooth enamel erodes, those pearly whites are more susceptible to staining, discoloration, and decay.

Nobody wants stained teeth, so next time you’re at the gym, try substituting water for sports drinks.

If you have already experienced staining and tooth discoloration and would like to know more about porcelain veneers and teeth whitening in Comstock Park, give Stewart & Hull Aesthetic & General Dentistry a call at 616-784-2377.

We are a highly regarded Comstock Park, Michigan dental practice that offers:

Bad Breath Is No Fun

Bad Breath Is No Fun For Comstock Park Residents

Bad Breath is No Fun

Picture this: You are starting a new job and are going to meet with your new boss for the first time. Confidence is key to your success. Your broad confident smile exposes rows of pearly white teeth, but when you open your mouth to exchange greetings, you worry about bad breath.

Perhaps your breath is not as a pleasant as you had hoped. Regular dental checkups at Stewart & Hull Aesthetic & General Dentistry can help alleviate your concern over bad breath. We have been addressing bad breath since 1974.

Causes

The technical term for bad breath is halitosis. Many factors can cause or contribute to halitosis. One of these factors is the food you eat. Onions and garlic are both known for having a potent effect on your breath. Other factors to consider include dry mouth, tobacco use, and harmful health concerns such as infections.

Bad breath usually originates in your mouth. Transient bad breath can be resolved through eating or brushing, and is a temporary condition usually associated with a dry mouth. Persistent bad breath can be caused by chronic dry mouth issues. It is made worse when food is not cleared away properly.

Solutions

  • Brushing and flossing daily is a key step in curing bad breath. Food particles can build up in your mouth and foster bacteria.
  • Simply observing the foods you eat  can result in a change in your breath.
  • Regular checkups can also reduce or eliminate the progression of bad breath.

Replacement for Missing Teeth With Dental Implants and Dental Bridges

Categories: Dental Implants

When people are missing teeth and want to know about tooth restoration, we usually tell them about dental bridges or tooth implants.  Tooth replacements can replace one or more missing teeth and prevent adjoining teeth from gradually shifting and can help correct bite problems

A dental bridge is an artificial tooth that replaces a missing tooth. The false tooth (called a “pontic”) is fused to porcelain crowns on either side of the missing tooth.

Tooth replacement has been a highly requested procedure at our dental practice. Most popular are dental implants. A dental implant consists of a titanium post surgically inserted into the jaw bone to replace the root of the missing tooth. The post integrates with the bone over a period of approximately three months to provide a stable foundation for the replacement tooth. At that time, a smaller post is attached that extends above the gum line. The artificial tooth (crown) is then attached. The entire process takes several months, but consistently yields wonderful results for our patients.

Please call Stewart and Hull Aesthetic and General Dentistry at 616-784-2377 to schedule a complimentary consultation with Dr. Stewart and Dr. Hull.  We look forward to hearing from you.

What Can Porcelain Veneers Do For You?

Categories: Porcelain Veneers

Veneers Create Stunning Smiles in Rockford, MI

Is your tooth enamel worn and thin? Tooth-colored porcelain veneers have the brilliance and translucency of healthy tooth enamel. Many Belmont, Comstock Park, Grand Rapids, Sparta, Walker and Rockford, MI, dental patients have received veneers to cover worn enamel. Some believe they look twenty years younger!

Have your teeth developed uneven edges? Tooth grinding, natural wear and other factors can roughen tooth edges. Veneers are a minimally invasive correction for uneven tooth edges. Veneers can transform your smile without significant restorative dental work.

Do you have chips or cracks in your teeth? If your teeth are otherwise healthy, veneers provide a flawless tooth surface. Are your teeth yellow or gray? Veneers can fix that, too. Veneers can be fabricated in any shade to perk up your smile while still blending naturally with your other teeth and skin tones.

Porcelain veneers are thin, tooth-shaped covers that are affixed to the front of teeth. Veneers are strong, natural looking, and one of the most affordable cosmetic dentistry procedures. Of course, a tooth with extensive damage may need a dental crown.

At Stewart and Hull Aesthetic and General Dentistry, we would be happy to show you what veneers can do for you. Stewart and Hull Aesthetic and General Dentistry is located at 769 York Creek Dr NW in Comstock Park. We provide premium dental care for many of your friends and neighbors in Belmont, Comstock Park, Grand Rapids, Sparta, Walker and Rockford, MI area. Our phone number is 616-784-2377.

Orthodontic Solutions You Can Live With

https://www.greatmismiles.com/invisalign-clear-braces/If your teeth aren’t as straight as you’d like, the good news is that you have options that have nothing to do with a mouth full of metal wires and brackets. Enter Invisalign.

The name Invisalign is an apt description of what this technologically advanced system does: align teeth invisibly. With Invisalign, patients receive custom plastic aligners that fit snugly over the teeth. Every couple of weeks, as the teeth move, the patient changes the aligners. Patients appreciate the fact that Invisalign trays are barely noticeable and they don’t restrict a normal diet. It is also beneficial that they are easy to keep clean.

If you have an event or need to be photographed, you can remove the aligners for short periods of time, but still continue with your treatment. It is important, however, that you commit to wearing the aligners every day for at least 22 hours if your treatment is going to be successful.

For an evaluation of your orthodontic needs call 616-784-2377 to schedule an appointment with Dr. Stewart and Dr. Hull at Stewart and Hull Aesthetic and General Dentistry.

At Stewart and Hull Aesthetic and General Dentistry, we are zealous about first rate dental care including comprehensive restorative and cosmetic dentistry. In addition to Invisalign, ask us about porcelain veneers and dental implants. Whether you need an exam and cleaning or a complete smile transformation, we look forward to serving you.

Dental Crowns For Replacing Weakened Or Damaged Teeth

dental crowns Comstock Park

It might surprise a lot of people to know that dental crowns have been used in dentistry for more than 2000 years. According to archeologists, the Etruscans experimented with crowns on teeth using ivory and bone as early as 700 B.C. By 200 A.D., materials became more sophisticated and they began using gold crowns to construct artificial teeth. There is evidence that the ancient Egyptians made tooth replacements out of seashells, shaping them and then hammering them into their gums.

Porcelain crowns were first used in the 1800s. After the refinement of metal casting methods in the 1900s, crown dentistry began to improve dramatically.

Today, crowns are strong, comfortable, and made to match your surrounding teeth.

Dental crowns cover the entire visible portion of the tooth above the gum line and are cemented in place after the tooth is treated. Crowns are used to strengthen teeth that have been worn down or weakened by decay or injury. Crowns are also used to brighten and improve the appearance of one’s smile.

If you suspect you need a crown, want to replace an old crown, or want to learn about other cosmetic dentistry procedures, please call Dr. Stewart and Dr. Hull at 616-827-7019. Stewart and Hull Aesthetic and General Dentistry is located at 769 York Creek Dr NW in Comstock Park. We have been serving patients in the Belmont, Grand Rapids, Sparta, Walker and Rockford, MI area since 1974. We can recommend the best tooth restoration or cosmetic dentistry option for you.

Treatment For Stress-Induced Jaw Pain In Comstock Park

Categories: TMD/TMJ treatment

stress-induced jaw pain in Comstock ParkEveryday problems cause some Comstock Park people to respond by clenching their jaw or grinding their teeth. For example, daily commuting in Belmont, Cedar Springs, Comstock Park, Grand Rapids, Sparta, Walker and Rockford, MI can take a physical toll. All the traffic, noise, and perpetual road construction causes some people to grind their teeth as they navigate the sea of cars on packed highways.

Teeth grinding and jaw clenching can cause a painful condition called TMD or Temporomandibular Joint Disorder. TMD is often mistakenly called ‘TMJ’: the acronym for Temporomandibular Joint.

Your jaw is able to open and close thanks to many jaw muscles and the intricate temporomandibular joints. These joints allow for fluid mobility as you chew, speak, and yawn.

Damage to these essential joints can lead to extreme pain in the jaw, head, face and neck. Pain may be experienced on one or both sides of the jaw.

TMD is an often misdiagnosed condition because facial pain can result from a variety of issues, not just damage to the temporomandibular joints. Sinus infections, tooth decay, and facial injuries can cause jaw pain. A correct diagnosis is the first step in treating TMD.

At Stewart and Hull Aesthetic and General Dentistry we have been diagnosing and treating TMD since 1974, working with other specialists when needed. If you are experiencing clicking, popping, or discomfort in your jaw, call Stewart and Hull Aesthetic and General Dentistry today for a diagnosis and treatment plan.

Dr. Stewart and Dr. Hull are dedicated to providing high-quality dentistry to the residents of Belmont, Cedar Springs, Comstock Park, Grand Rapids, Sparta, Walker and Rockford, MI.

Stewart and Hull Aesthetic and General Dentistry not only treat TMD, but we redesign smiles with unprecedented cosmetic dental smile makeovers. Furthermore, we offer general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, and porcelain veneers.

Your smile is contagious! Make sure it is healthy and beautiful. Call Stewart and Hull Aesthetic and General Dentistry today at 616-784-2377 to schedule a consultation or examination.
